Schwarzschmied Talk with Jörg Zemmler

20. September 2023

Jörg Zemmler was born in Bolzano in 1975 and lives in Vienna and Seis am Schlern. He often appears as an author, e.g. with his latest book "Neueste Südtiroler Landeskunde - 116 Dorf- und Stadtstiche" (New South Tyrolean Regional Studies - 116 Village and Town Engravings), in which he rewrites the history of the 116 South Tyrolean municipalities. For example, he suggests that Merano was originally situated by the sea, and that Bolzano apparently got its name through a vote in the year 2 before zero. As an author, Zemmler is witty, cheeky, surprising and enigmatic. This not only applies to him as a poet, but is equally evident in his other fields of activity, for he is also a musician, filmmaker, speechmaker, etc. Basically, he always works in an interdisciplinary and experimental way. Among other things, Zemmler was Fm4 protest song contest winner, Austrian slam champion in 2009 and in 2013 he won the Ö1 prize "Hautnah".

After the talk, which will be moderated by Hannes Egger, there will be the opportunity to deepen what you have heard in conversation or to follow the suggestions with music by Walter Garber aka DJ Veloziped.
