History of Hotel Schwarzschmied

The Hotel Schwarzschmied takes its name from the blacksmith of the Schwarzbauer farm, who once worked at this very place. The Schwarzschmied was a traditional farrier. The last smith to work here with fire, anvil, and tongs was Domenico Zampieri from the Nonsberg region. He was known beyond regional borders for a remarkable skill: by cauterizing a nerve between the toes with a hot iron, he could relieve people from the pain of sciatica.

In those days, guests came to this place seeking healing. This forms the foundation of our philosophy: even today, we strive to be a place that fosters healing – physically, mentally, and emotionally. In this spirit, we have developed our Arise Mindful Program, and all our spa offerings share this same purpose. Hotel Schwarzschmied is a place of positive energy, nurtured and expressed in many different ways throughout the house.

The hotel was built in 1981 by Sieglinde and Siegfried Dissertori and has been extensively renovated several times since 2015. The interior design was created by interior architect Christina Biasi-von Berg from Studio Biquadra in Merano. Relaxed, muted tones, gentle wood hues and soft shades of cream support the aim of promoting calm and relaxation – also visually. The rooftop suites were even featured with the German Design Award for their design excellence.

Art is an integral part of the hotel: works by the artist Hannes Egger from Lana can be found in many rooms and in part reflect the history of the place. His connection with the Dissertori family provides a special foundation for expressing this philosophy and story through his art. The Schwarzschmied himself is depicted in one of his artworks on the lowest floor next to the elevator, recognizable by his characteristic features.
